If you’ve ever dreamed of a kitchen that feels both cozy, creative and light, a boho farmhouse style might be exactly what you’re craving. This trend blends rustic charm with eclectic, personalized touches—and it’s a great way to make your kitchen feel warm, lived-in, and totally you. As I was remodeling my kitchen, I tried to include each element to reflect a boho farmhouse style.
Here are the 10 essential elements to bring this beautiful style to life:
1. Open Shelving with Collected Treasures
Swap out upper cabinets for wood shelves and style them with your favorite flea market finds, cookbooks, and potted herbs. Let your shelves tell your story. I have cookbooks, brass molds, antique mixing bowls and baskets and on my open shelves.

2. Natural Wood & Weathered Finishes
Think reclaimed wood countertops, antique furniture, or a rustic kitchen island. Imperfections add charm! When building my stove hood, I fell in love with using cedar. I also used cedar for my open shelves. Cedar is beneficial in the kitchen because it is resistant to rot, decay and mold growth. It has a beautiful aesthetic appeal with rich reddish-brown tones and just adds warmth and character to your kitchen design.

3. Eclectic Textiles
Layer a vintage-inspired rug, colorful towels, or a patterned curtain beneath the sink. Mix textures and prints for a relaxed boho feel.
4. Vintage or Mismatched Decor
Use your creativity to curate pieces that look collected over time: think metal bread boxes, ceramic pitchers, and wooden spoons.

5. Earthy, Muted Color Palette
Start with a creamy white base and add soft tones like sage, clay, mustard, and dusty rose for depth and warmth.

6. Open, Airy Layout with Natural Light
Keep windows uncovered or add breezy, sheer curtains. Let in as much sunlight as possible to keep things feeling bright and open. In my sunroom, I use white roman shades because I didn’t want to hide the view. Over my sink, I use a dark rattan pull-down shade to add contrast with all the white. I usually leave it open to let all the light in.

7. Lots of Plants
Add greenery to open shelves, countertops, and corners. Trailing ivy or potted herbs bring the outdoors in.

8. Handcrafted or Artisan Pieces
Think hand-thrown mugs, macramé wall hangings, or woven baskets. These elements give the space heart and soul. I love to use handmade macrame plant hangers.
9. Statement Lighting
Go bold with rattan pendant lights, a beaded chandelier, or a unique vintage fixture to anchor your space. I totally LOVE my beaded chandelier!

10. Functional Yet Artistic Storage
Show off your tools! Use open shelving, hanging pot racks, and decorative glass jars. Make storage part of your kitchen’s personality. I use a whole shelf just for my flower vases. I grow an abundance of dahlias in the summer and having a vase handy is really awesome!

Whether you’re doing a full kitchen reno or just adding a few touches, these elements can help you create a boho farmhouse kitchen that feels beautiful, comfortable, and totally one-of-a-kind.
